About our Organization
The Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Foundation (LUKMEF-Cameroon) is a registered non-governmental, non-profit, and apolitical organization founded in 1999 and headquartered in Buea, Cameroon. Inspired by the principles of peace, justice, and equality championed by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., LUKMEF works to promote peacebuilding, non-violence, human rights, and sustainable development across communities in Cameroon. The organization adopts a rights-based and people-centered approach, empowering individuals and communities to take charge of their own advancement while fostering social inclusion, dialogue, and accountability.
Over the years, LUKMEF has become one of Cameroon’s leading civil society organizations, implementing programs in gender-based protection, child protection, education, food security, health and nutrition, environment, and WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene). Through its dedicated work and partnerships with local and international actors, the foundation continues to build resilience in vulnerable populations, respond to humanitarian crises, and strengthen community capacities for peaceful coexistence and sustainable development.
Empowering and supporting Individuals and whole communities to take the lead and control of their individual and collective advancement towards fulfilled and happy lives in peace and perfect harmony with other human beings and nature both for present and future generations on a rights-based approach.

- 1999: LUKMEF was founded by Tanyi Christian E. in Cameroon.
- Since then, LUKMEF has operated continuously in Cameroon with involvement in various peace, human rights, social justice, education, humanitarian relief, and development programmes.
- Under Mr. Tanyi Christian’s leadership, LUKMEF has grown in capacity: not only implementing projects directly in Cameroon (particularly in the Northwest and Southwest Regions), but also engaging in training, community capacity building, and broader advocacy.
- It has also expanded its network and partnerships: working with international agencies (e.g. UNICEF) for capacity-building (religious leaders, community actors) in humanitarian intervention and coordination.
- As crises have unfolded in Cameroon (e.g. conflict, displacement, humanitarian emergencies), LUKMEF has responded by scaling emergency relief interventions (child protection, gender-based violence, WASH, etc.).
